Bioclear

At Glen Ellyn Dentistry, we pride ourselves on providing our patients with some of the most advanced dental treatments available today. Developed in 2007, Bioclear is a relatively new, highly effective, and efficient dental treatment that offers both restorative and cosmetic benefits that can be completely transformative for our patients’ smiles.

What Is Bioclear?

Bioclear is a restorative and cosmetic treatment technique that uses clear resin as an effective alternative to dental veneers, dental crowns, and dental bonding.

The resin is applied to the teeth using a special tooth-shaped mold called a Bioclear Matrix and a unique pouring method. This application method creates a single, monolithic tooth covering that is durable and long-lasting.

What Types of Dental Concerns Does Bioclear Address?

Bioclear can address a wide array of concerns that affect a person’s oral health and the aesthetic appearance of their teeth. It can be used to:

  • Fill in gaps or close spaces (black triangles) between teeth
  • Repair chipped, broken, or fractured teeth
  • Support weakened teeth
  • Repair traumatic injuries to the teeth
  • Address certain cases of tooth sensitivity
  • Cover stubborn stains or other types of permanent tooth discoloration
  • Create a uniform color, brightness, and appearance across the smile
  • Correct the size or shape of irregular teeth
  • Make over the appearance of the teeth
  • Improve the symmetry and balance of a patient’s smile

In many cases, Bioclear can be used to accomplish the same treatment goals as dental veneers, dental crowns, and dental bonding.

What Are the Advantages of Treatment With Bioclear?

Choosing treatment with Bioclear offers several advantages and benefits over alternative treatment options (veneers, crowns, and bonding). These benefits and advantages include:

Preserves the Natural Tooth

Treatments such as dental crowns and veneers require that a portion of a tooth’s outer layer be removed to accommodate the placement of these dental appliances. As a result, dental veneers and crowns must be worn and maintained for life.

Non-Invasive Treatment

Since Bioclear does not require the removal of tooth enamel for placement, the treatment is much less invasive. In addition to removing any signs of infection and sterilizing bacteria (if necessary), a patient’s teeth simply need to be thoroughly cleaned and dried before applying a gentle etching material and the final treatment.

Does Not Irritate the Gums

Treatments like dental veneers and bonding only cover the portions of the teeth that are exposed above the gum line. Thanks to Bioclear’s unique treatment application technique, its application begins below the gums, creating a more comfortable fit that won’t irritate the gingival tissues.

Looks Just Like Natural Teeth

Bioclear treatments are polished with a special wet-polishing process that creates a translucent effect similar to the natural semi-opaque appearance of tooth enamel.

Long-Lasting Results

Since Bioclear resin is poured around a tooth and not layered onto the tooth, it creates a solid, highly durable structure. Compared to dental veneers and dental bonding, Bioclear lasts longer. With proper care, patients can often enjoy their Bioclear dental work (without the need for repairs) for more than ten years.

Easily Repairable

If your Bioclear dental work does become chipped, loose, or otherwise damaged, it can easily be repaired. This is not the case with dental veneers, which typically need to be removed and completely replaced when damaged.

Same-Day Treatment

Another major benefit of treatment with the Bioclear method is that, unlike dental veneers that need to be personally designed and manufactured outside of our dental office, Bioclear treatment can occur during a single appointment.
